Review:

This first match was a case of Spooky Action either not expecting the remotte boosted Vargur comp to be the first pick from No Spaceships or thinking they had it figured out and could out range it with the Scimitar.
Off the bat, Spooky hard dives from their range onto the Osprey of Keps putting themselves into damage range of the Vargurs immediately and losing a flycatcher extremely fast. Pandi lands a max range rapple on BrainStraw in the Scimitar and it allows SKYKILLER to follow suit and close as well, both able to apply big damage to the logistics. The hard dive results in an early logistics trade, which likely benefits the Vargurs given their local rep abilities.
No Spaceships then clears up the screening tackle from Spooky before working their way through the Cyclone Fleets. Again, somehow the CFI of Hwi is in grapple range of Pandi who has been positionally on top of the entire fight, perhaps with Spooky focusing too carefully on getting damage into the other Vargur. Skykiller holds in low structure thanks to repair bots and perhaps some well timed jams from the Griffin, still alive in low structure as well. After he holds the remaining Cyclone Fleets are run down and killed.
I had thought originally that the Bellicoses may have missiles fit, but it also seems they had at least one neut and one nos fit.

Review:

Ahh the no logistics Florida man comp up against No Spaceships heavy control armor core. I expect this was just the matchup that Spooky was hoping for, and given their execution of Florida kiting, I would give them the wide advantage in this matchup.
Off the bat, the kite looks good and the drones are going out early but starting with the Keres, an interesting primary given the Guardian logistics that should be able to hold it unless they manage some RNG wrecking shots. We see the Omen of Faffy hard dive the Alligator of Vordak, enabled because drone travel time means he’s completely safe from damage even when being outside of Guardian rep range. What would appear to be overcommitment is likely the play of the match, as he scrams down the first Alligator and allows No Spaceships to close in and secure the kill.
The Guardian of Mr Keps continues to take damage from the remaining 4 sets of boosted drones and bleeds through much of its armor, but backed by an absolute swarm of repair bots, continues to hold. This is likely where the phenomenon I affectionally call “ThunderDrones” may have taken some effect, as we can see several of the damage drones from Spooky continually struggle to stay applying damage in spite of clearly being within range. No Spaceships correctly hard turtles since they are clearly tanking all incoming damage without issue and Spooky begins to work through the repair bots from the No Spaceships side hoping to clear enough to kill the Guardian. The Gila of Asura mispositions and dies while the Guardian begins taking fire again, and with a few slivers of structure remaining on the Guardian, the fight ends.

Review:

The third match has Spooky banning the Vargur and conquest bans taking out their Redeemer comp, leaving No Spaceships to bring a third comp from their pool. They opt for one of the remaining ones in their hanger with a HAM rush while Spooky appropriately expects this and brings out their counter gun comp leading to a terrific matchup. As expected, No Spaceships tries to find an angle to commit without being kited and gunned to death, but the spread from Spooky and the heavy damage lead to favorable trades from range and allows them to focus the Osprey when it dives to save the Osprey Navy. Meanwhile the two Deacons with Astarte links are incredibly safe from the lack of heavy webs and HAM application, snowballing the match out of control.

Review:

In the fourth match we see Spooky’s attempt again at handling the Redeemer control core from No Spaceships. This time opting for a missile kite comp. Using the MJU to get to the backline of No Spaceships and hard diving the Guardian they make a big play. But the 100MN fit, combined with the repair bots and impressive understanding to drive the Guardian directly at and through where the Spooky team was leads it to take very little damage and causes the entirety of the Spooky team to get bogged down by the control core. From that point on, the control is overwhelming and easily removes the remaining ships giving No Spaceships the game, set, and tournament.

Review:

ON3C brought a relatively standard heavy armor neut control team and ran up against what could be the most inventive comp of the tournament with CALSF running a double Curse, triple Magus comp with some light drone damage and assuming the neuts would be able to get through the opponent rep capabilities without losing a ship.
The match starts in CALSF’s favor taking out the Augoror early and working through the Vedmak, however they have no repair bots for their Oneiros which slowly bleeds under the pressure from the Armani and Prophecy drones. From there, the lack of buffer of the remaining CALSF ships leads to their deaths as the Curses are unable to stop the remaining trickle dps from the core of ON3C.

Review:

The Barghest comp here from Rusty had some opportunities to clear the lighter tanked Gilas off the bat instead of going for the Cyclone Fleet. However, they didn’t hard dive into the drone comp and insted opted for their Hyena to dive without logistic support, getting it nearly killed and forcing it back. The Gila team was able to comfortably kite the Barghests while cutting down the low end before finally breaking through a Barghest, while the mismanagement of clips from the Hyenas team likely cost them the match.

Review:

I have yet to understand the rationale behind these absolute minimal dps drone comps with some light ewar and screening. To this point, they have continued to feed once the enemy finally closes distance and starts getting damage application as they can’t fully prevent damage from making it to their logistics and backline. The same happens in this match as NoVac is able to collapse onto the Oneiros after appearing hard screened initially, due to a lack of scrams allowing the webbed CNIs to still be faster than an untackled Oneiros. From there, the logistics dies and the mop up of the light dps commences.

Review:

Tuskers pulled out the Bwar style with heavy disruption and an armor web Huginn and Barghest for this match and may have had some help with Odin’s stacking their full damage into two RHML Barghests of their own. Tuskers are able to clear the Stork, Hyena, and Maulus in the first salvo while the two Inquisitors fall in the next. With the heavy Huginn webs and disruption, Odin’s is unable to return the favor and barely scratches the light frigate ewar of Tuskers.

Review:

Both sides decided to field their core rush comps with Paid Actors bringing the comp that won the mirror against Exodunks and seemed to be likely favored in this matchup. Yet with ON3C starting at 30km instead of 0 like Exodunks, they were able to pull back and let Paid Actors dive them. Paid Actors was overzealous, particularly their first Rupture, and let themselves get strung out by the Svipul and Jaguar before ON3C turned on them and began shredding through their core. A Rupture and Khizriel died before the remainder of their core got to the ON3C lines and their Tempest never even made it getting hard controlled by the Jaguar from nearly the start of the match.

Review:

Tuskers brought back the Rapier/Jackdaw kite comp and got a decent matchup going into the double marauder setup of No Vacancies who opted not to go for the remote tracking computer variant that had proven successful in the second weekend, instead bringing two lightly tanked Confessors as tackle support. As expected, the missile damage out of Tuskers was more than sufficient to shred the full low end of NoVac while the Scimitar was relatively unharmed by the two slow Paladins that clearly lacked the projection to handle this comp. Tuskers then slowly worked through the two battleships to move on.

Review:

NEVV decided to bring out a heavy drone damage comp in this match and Spooky countered with a missile kite comp. Shockingly the Proteus was not fit with a long scram and so NEVV were unable to make headway catching the kite while their drone ships began to get strung out away from their logistics, finally losing their logi to the missile spam from the Cyclone Fleets. From that point, there wasnt anything for the drone team to do as their heavy drones were too slow to handle the rush and they bled their dps at a fast rate.

Review:

Again we see the remote boosted Vargur comp from No Spaceships, this tim into a similar comp from burned my prop, but we get to see how it is able to handle heavy armor with Deacon logistics. In the first 20 seconds, the two Vargurs perfectly match a Deacon and kill it. At the same time, just as to be expected from this team, the Armani of Exanos gets a great MJD onto the Opsrey from No Spaceships, forcing them to begin to focus on him. The Osprey of Keps is able to very quickly overheat and burn off before getting hard tackled or neuted and manages to escape while the Armani gets burned down, bunred my prop continues to try to burn the Osprey but are unable to as he manages to just remain out of range while the entirety of the armor comp gets destroyed.

In a rematch of the first bracket match from the tournament where NEVV took a convincing win with a no logi rush comp, they again opted to run a no logi rush. This time, Tuskers sniffed it out and ran a Floon swapped Bwar with a FIVE web Huginn and max disruption. The webs turn out to be more than enough as the entire NEVV team gets webbed down and the Floon goes to work flipping through the low end of NEVV. Dracarys attempts to clear the Huginn, but under full Guardian reps there’s no way they can allpy enough dps as their core continues to bleeg ships that can no longer deal damage from range.

Review:

There were two very interesting comps brough in this match with an armor Flykiller and heavy damps on one side and a no logi Claymore/Phantasm rush core on the other. The armor Khizriels turn out to be fast enough to no need logistics of their own as they’re able to kite away from the majority of the dps from ON3C and burn through the high end relatively quickly, starting with one of the Claymores. They then decide to clear out the Phantasms and focus damps on the last remaining Claymore.

Review:

burned my prop brings the solo Leshak comp with Lachesis for damps and runs into the HAM rush from Tuskers. The Vengeance and Maller both get removed as the Purifier gets drone damage and the Oneiros tries to save it. With that death, the burned my prop team loses its screening and the Oneiros gets eaten alive. The spooling Leshak hates running into a rush as they never have time to fully ramp the damage to kill the heavier tanked ships as we saw in this match.

Not a whole lot to say here. When you bring shield ships and the opponents bring a mirror with laser ships and solid em/kin/therm resists against your rail/laser damage it’s going to be a bad time. Congrats to Spooky for hitting the right comp into this mirror and then executing, but not much outside of comp selection made the difference here.

Review:

With the Vargur ban, Tuskers felt that DarkSide. would come with a heavy control comp and brough out drone damage to handle the matchup. They were correct in their read however we find that Deacons against heavy neut platforms leads to a really rough fight. With Skykiller running free in the curse to take out the two Deacons cap then they cant keep up the VNI. Meanwhile, they completely underestimate the absolute swarm of repair bots on the guardian of Mr Keps and find they cant break any targets after the Guardian stops taking much damage. I want to note the deacon is 100mn fit and this comp will continue to prove exceptional throughout the grand finals with the rep bots playing another key role.

Review:

If you asked me just looking at the comps how this would play out, I probably would have given the edge to Tuskers being able to kite out the HAM rush and work through the low end before getting into the high end. But oh god the damage, and more importantly than that the range of the CyFI HAMs being more than enough to outrange the Vigilant webs was a key factor in the outcome of this match.
The Loki is the first primary but he smartly slowplays and the Tuskers get out of their own optimal range, meanwhile the Bellicose hard dives and gets primaried but almost looks like it was a bait play as he manages to turn around and get out in maybe 2% structure. All this time the Cyclone Fleets are faster than the Astartes and don’t get cleanly screened so they end up at 0 on Mira and absolutely delete him before moving onto the Maller. In all this time the Cyclone Fleets are so heavily buffer fit and the one Cyclone that had been getting primaried stays out of optimal DPS range once his shields get low to force Tuskers into shooting a healthy target that they can’t break.

Review:

There is a lot of positional playing going on in this match with the HML CFIs against the damps and guns of the BSOD team. One of the Cyclone Fleets starts taking significant damage, but the lack of fast tackle for BSOD means it gets to burn hard away and reduce incoming damage significantly while also pulling the gunboats way out of position from their Augoror and getting their logistics killed. The Celestis falls next followed by the Vigilant shortly after reenabling the range for the ON3C comp and letting them power through the VNI. The Rapier webs keep the PNIs at long range while the two remaining Fleet Cyclones throw light damage at them, eventually both teams trade one battlecruiser each. ON3C finishes off the remaining Magus and the CFI of Ciaphas escapes the PNI in deep structure and gets an ASB reload sealing the match in overtime.

Review:

Hidden Ship Village brings a HAM rush into this patchup and may have gotten a very unlucky semi-mirror into an Alligator kite comp with local MJD Gators completely dodging the HAM capabilities of the opponents through heavy utilization of MJUs and MJDs. Both Ospreys trade at nearly identical times which puts the kite comp in the drive seat though drone travel time will become a challenge. The Jackdaws can help provide drone bunny support while the Lachesis makes sure theyre winning the damp and ewar match from range and that nothing can contest their two free roaming Gators. This becomes a bit of a game of cat and mouse and HSV is never able to catch out the gators on any of the beacons to allow them to get damage in. Truly some spooky distance action in this match.

Review:

This was a hilarious match to watch and probably a great example of never bringing minrush right at 0 on the beacon. There are always bigger and heavier rush comps out there and if you land on grid next to a comp with more damage and tank than yours with decent tackle, you will get pinned down and deleted quickly. Which is exactly what happens in this match.

Review:

At the start of this match I thought the appelsiin team had the edge given the control comp out of No Spaceships lacked the damage to really make a dent, but then I realized there was no logi on the appel team which still came in at range and needed to have delayed damage on. The heavy tanked core proved to be too much for 5 sets of medium drones and none of the ships outside of the Confessor were ever really pressured.

Review:

This match was a showing as to why tech 1 Typhoons are not the optimal ship for any kingslayer comps as they lack a missile damage bonus, dramatically limiting the amount of damage they can put out before requiring a reload. Even with what appears to be a full tracking disruption Sentinel, the three battleships still cant burst a VNI under deacon reps, while the two Hyperions have no issues killing the Typhoon. The match ends on time with the two Hyperions just slowly burning around grid trying to catch and kill targets and the Armani slowly bleeding structure.

Review:

This match was truly a disaste as soon as Chad MJUed right into the main core of burned my prop without the rest of his team having any follow up and still being delayed aligning on the beacon. The lack of coordination showed and proved to be fatal as the team got strung out and were unable to apply proper damage to any of their targets.

Review:

Templis brought back their drone Zarm control comp and ran into a heavy missile kite with no way to catch or kill any of the specific targets on the Odin’s side without feeding a command destroyer. They do manage to catch the Nighthawk but with the low damage out of the drones against Scimitar reps and the speed of the remaining Odin’s team easily letting them into the backline to kill the Zarmazd, the match swung quickly into Odin’s favor. They do finally kill the Scimitar, but by then they had lost all their links and the Stratios and Dominix had both fallen to the damage out of the Cyclone, Rapier, and three Jackdaws.

Review:

BSOd in this matchup has one wincon and its to get to the backline widow and kill it, They need to push off and counter screen any hard tackle as they make their way to it. Otherwise the Widow lock range is too high and the Celstis will likely never be able to win the ewar fight. Instead, they back off, get strung out and lose their Augoror quickly before hard committing onto the widow while damping out the Zarmazd. And Mira falls nearly instantly having only taken an Augoror and Vigilant with him. However there still is a Zarmazd that stays safe and bait tanks some of the BSOD comp and the BSOD ships are all still pinned so can never get into optimal to apply their damage as well as the Tuskers ships leading to a victory for Lazy Piglets even though Scorch Selest almost threw by getting out to damp range.

Review:

With complementary bans from both teams nearly eliminating most rush sources Exodunks opted for a Florida man kite variation with no logi while HSV opted to go back to their dual BS+Ashimmu setup with Inquisitors. From the start HSV was just too slow to get damage out onto the Exodunks kite and their low end was picked apart quickly by the drones. They did finally track down Vytone’s Alligator and finish him off but by then the match was well over.

Review:

As much as I dislike this Rusty Hyena’s kingslayer comp, if the other team lacks the tackle core to hold down the Typhoons to kill them, then they can quickly get out of range of the opposing comps and burn through the lowend support as they did in this match. I was quite shocked but again another insight into why the Deacon is much stronger in specific circumstances than the Thalia. The Thalias fall and the rest of the appel team goes with it.

Review:

This match was very close and the Maller counter screen of the Loki may be what won it for them, or potentially some misrepping from the burst of Mochi leading to the early death of the first Caracal Navy. I must wonder whether the damage types were properly allocated too as the Leshak gets so close to breaking but as the reactive spools it gains the ability to tank through the damage and it looks like the full damage begins to fall off before the ships even start dropping for disaste. Potentially a few fitting changes or minor piloting changes and this match quickly goes disastes way, instead the Leshak survives and Templis moves on.

Review:

The Guardian of NEVV gets collapsed on by the support of ON3C however in doing so, the Bhaalgorn gets caught way out of position by the Confessor and the support alone is unable to break through the Guardian with the rep bots and jams. The damps from the Keres render the Auguror relatively useless and the Ashimmu drops, followed by the Pontifex and Vedmak. The match ends with ON3C unable to break through anything on the NEVV side having lost their support.

Review:

Spooky Action brought out something completely new for this matchup with their heavy armor missile setup while Paid Actors also brought out a newer drone comp with the Gila and Gator bans. Regretfully for a drone comp, the damage output is very low, and every ship on Spooky had a ton of repair bots or tank with tech 2 resists. The match came down to a grinding battle with split damage from the low end of Spooky finally getting through the Deacon on Paid actors while the Cruor managed to slow the Oneiros enough to let the heavy drones catch and kill it. As the low end comes off the grid, the Damnation and Sacrilege come out ahead of the Eos and Ishtar given the Falcon had survived throughout.

Review:

You can have all the tank and control in the world but if you can’t tackle your opponents its going to be a struggle. The HAM rush quickly recognized a direct burn into the enemies wouldn’t work, so they burned back to a beacon and we had a relative stalemate as NoVac held the one free point lead. No Spaceships needed to find a time to dive and the widow eventually got slightly out of position leading to the whole No Spaceships team hard committing onto it. With the pure HAM dps from 5 ships they burned it quickly even through reps as the Zarm had not been prespooling on the Widow while waiting and was unable to catch in time. The remainder of the match was a quick cascade.

Review:

A HAM rush with a local MJD or no prop scorpion runs into a kitey Florida man comp. The jams from the scopion hold well on the low end and prevent the screening or logistics from working as burned my prop manages to get damage out and through a Gila initially, but the Hyena and drones turn on the Osprey of burned my prop as the second Gila falls. While they manage to break the Osprey, they’ve lost both Gilas and have no logistics or control and are still facing the damage of three HAM ships and the tackle of the Raptor. The no prop Scorpion somehow managed to pull far more weight than anyone would have expected in this match and the wildcard comp pushes Odin’s into the lower bracket.

Review:

These redemption matches start out with another odd set of comps with HSV opting again to use an Ashimmu, while Horde brings out a Loki, Gator super slow ass “rush”. The Horde team takes forever to get on top of the Ashimmu, yet still do a fair job killing it. However, they throw away their Osprey which could have just hung out forever outside of the fight since it gets neuted and cant rep by coming in anyway. It seems Horde didn’t think about the matchup and instead opted to just go all in and still not pull back when they had a chance letting the HSV core that is beefier and has solid dps duke it out at close range. I’m curious about all the fits here because the gators and Loki all fell way faster than they should have given what was on grid.

Review:

This is what happens when you bring a solo Leshak comp against a heavy distributed dps core with good projection. The Ryba team understood the assignment and hard dive and all in the Leshak with dps drones able to clear a Thalia, managing to break it before they start to bleed key core damage. From there it is just a mop up of the remaining Suffed support.

Review:

The rush from Yamete does well off the start but the Scimitar pilot has no business diving, neglecting to note the remote tracking computer Bellicoses paired with Paladins and the range and damage they present. They burn the first Paladin quickly but while doing so, the Scimitar goes down as well. They get on top of the second Paladin, but the lack of Scimitar and the Griffin jams that were not destroyed early on by one of the T3Ds, which could have been a Jackdaw but they chose to ban it, meant they barely manage to lose the dps trade losing a Sleipnir and a Cynabal allowing the Paladin to barely finish the last Sleipnir before dying. The two Bellicose, Pontifex and Griffin are then able to spread out and use their drones and missiles to quickly bring down the light tank T3Ds.
This was probably the best fight so far and lost on execution.

Review:

Again we see a Vargur comp into a missile kite team with similar results. Surprisingly, Brave never shoots at the logistics frigates with a triple Orthrus lineup instead opting to try for the links and the Jackdaws, neither of which were particularly large threats to their main core. The main threats being the Vargurs that don’t even need to move to delete the Basilisk and then make quick work of the remaining missile ships.

This match boils down to essentially the damage from two Barghests against the damage from two Cyclone Fleet Issues; a match that doesn’t end in 7 guys favor. With no real threats to the Barghests they are both able to hard dive the Basilisk directly in the face of the Rapier and other support. Managing to break the Basilisk as it passes 100km from the arena center. At this point, there isn’t anything that 7 guys can do to claw back the match as the two Barghests have more than enough tank to handle the damage output from the screen kite comp.

The last comp Wokewater wanted to run into when they brought triple Stratios and Armageddon that all use either slow faction Heavy drones or tech 1 sentry drones that apply weak damage at range was this hyper fast missile kite team from Odin’s. Nothing on their team was fast enough to catch a single ship, nor could they apply damage out to the ranges they needed to in order to even pressure the Scimitar. This match is one you instantly say “go next” without even fighting in scrims.

Review:

Arrival at the start of the match has a decent comp matchup as long as they can clear the Jaguar and Bifrost quickly enough without their Loki getting caught and use it’s webs to keep the heavier ships out of high damage range while utilizing the Orthrus scrams to help it escape. Instead they first primary a Scythe Fleet which is also super fast but is much easier to control with scrams from the Orthruses. They end up quickly losing the Osprey as expected and their Loki gets caught very early and killed. This lets the fight evolve into three Khizriels vs a Claymore and two Othruses. Sadly the Khizriels are fast enough to run down and kill the Claymore without bleeding too badly. Leaving the first Khizriel in structure after finishing the Claymore and forcing the Orthruses in to finish the job. This again becomes the case where the Orthruses can’t take advantage of their range or they wont be able to break their primary but also leading to getting Barraged down by the angel battlecruisers.

Review:

In this match, we have a HAM rush that gets completely shut down by one Confessor hard tackling a Loki right off the start and tanking to win. Even with two Lokis, two CFIs and a Jackdaw, the SUS team doesn’t have enough applicable damage to kill a T3D which is just shocking. The Vindi also dives and catches the second Loki while the CFIs are screened away from the backline by the command destroyers. They finally manage to get the Blackbird down, but by then have some split HAM damage against a fully supported Vindicator that chews through their Loki.

The HAM rush hard dives the double floon comp but sees the first quickly MJD away. With one server tick to spare, they manage to get a scram on the second floon and from there the match is over as the overwhelming damage kills off half of the damage output of the ON2C team and then rips through the remaining support that remains nearby.

Review:

A solo Blackbird comp with Maulus support works okay if you run into a team that can’t project once they’re tackled by the Vindicator and Harb Navy, however when you’re up against two Paladins the comp is much more fragile. The match is a slow grind for both teams with the Ashimmu eventually being the first loss succumbing to the high damage Vindicator and HNI, however the Blackbird for Ryba also finally falls with the neut pressure from the Paladins and Ashimmu having accumulated an edge over time. This neut pressure follows into damage on the Vindicator which doesn’t receive full rep output from the Deacons and is likely fighting off running cap dry at this point leading to its quick demise and the end of the chances for Ryba.

The points just mentioned above again follow suit for the NEVV team as they run into a comp that will never get caught by the lone Vindicator and can easily go through their entire low end. This match was just a brutal comp mismatch and one that was decided before the teams even landed on grid.

NEVV doubled down on their Vindicator comp again this match and had a slightly better matchup into a comp that had two RHML Barghs as their dps core. If NEVV could disrupt the clip damage before losing their blackbird they had a chance to pull this one out. At the start of the match the Blackbird and Confessor both are barely held and the Guardian easily tanks through the remainder of the first clip. In this time the Vindicator has made its way across the field and gets onto a Barghest. With a Vindicator putting out more than enough damage, the Barghest dies and NEVV moves on into the bracket stage.

Review:

As I posted in chat “F to Horde, get hard countered” they ran up against a comp that just flat beat them. There was no level of play that would have allowed them into this match as they were out projected, out tanked, and out damaged across the board. The Rapier, triple Jackdaw comp works in many instances where you have some light support and a few big ships to handle, but this match was decided in draft as the triple Orthrus makes quick work of the triple Jackdaw support and then is happy to run down and kill the Scimitar.

D-sync brought an armor drone control comp that works against a few damage ships like a two battleship core, however when facing up against the faster gunboat style that can get on top of them and has enough damage distribution to make the disruption less effective, they were in trouble off the start. There wasn’t much they could have done to keep the finns off of their Curse and they did a good job split screening the Absolutions, but the two Augoror Navies run down and make quick work of the Curse and from there the match snowballs.

If you see two Vargurs and two Bellicoses on the same team and you’re in lightly tanked kiting ships, chances are you are going to die very soon. Much like a Vargur going into bastion and gaining disgusting range and tracking, these Vargurs essentially get mobile bastion from the remote tracking computers and target painters on both of the Bellicoses. The damage output at what should be deep falloff becomes absurd and they have no trouble tracking at long range as they burn after the kiting ships. Truly another brutal comp mismatch.

This match felt like Of Essence could have a path to victory if they were able to get some range on the incoming rush and they do try to split as best they can, however the triple Broadswords are quick to scram multiple targets and keep them relatively close to prevent range from becoming an issue. The Navy Ferox’s were fit with active rep and likely little buffer so they arent even able to get the full 9 cycles of ASB off before getting deleted by the sheer overwhelming damage from the minrush comp. Up to this point we’ve seen just much better drafts from the winning sides in these matches.

Review:

Exhibit A as to why the Loki is a lynchpin ship to any HAM rush. We see SPERGs rush ram directly onto the well tanked Dominix as it contains the majority of the damage from the CALSF team and removing it would effectively win the match. However, the rush comp has very little in the way of tank or logistics themselves, and starts bleeding DPS far too quickly for what the comp should be able to take. With the lack of range and the disruption on their core, the rush is unable to switch targets after the Zarm is able to spool on the Dominix and from there the match is over.
Much better would have been a HAM rush with some Lokis and immediately running onto the Zarmazd with the ranged webs. With little to repair the Zarm it would have quickly died and then you have a significant DPS and tank advantage over the drone control comp.

Review:

This rush was executed quite poorly into a kingslayer based comp and many of the fittings may be questionable given the total lack of sustain on the rush, particularly without any logistics to back them up. First, the Broadswords were slow to move and spread scrams off the start so the Typhoons were able to separate quickly and easily. Then the rush decided to spread out to different targets rather than quickly pile damage onto one key ship. Finally, they focused the single heaviest target on the opposing team when there were two much less tanked ships in the Typhoons that would have quickly dropped under the damage output from the rush. Because of these key points, we see the rush ships quickly dismantled by the kingslayer and an easy win for Rusty.

Review:

This match is an example showing what happens when you try to use a comp without fully understanding how the comp is designed to be flown. If this truly is a copy paste comp from the AG6 test comps Scorpions, then the two Ishkurs are full neut highs and designed to cap out the enemy logistics while the Scorpions keep the dps off your Guardian. Also, it’s likely this comp had 4 minmatar and 4 caldari jams with only 2 for each amarr and gallente if again it was copy/pasted. Knowing you’re facing Damassys I would have skewed up toward about 6 amarr jams and been able to hold a much better jam matchup against the comp that arrived on grid. For these reasons, the TTT team was unable to keep the damage off their Guardian and they were unable to break through the low end with drones and Nergal as the comp is designed to do.

The drone travel time takes too long and by 1 minute into the match goons have already lost their two major damage and tank ships leaving them with a pair of Gilas against the core of SUS. Two Lokis are more than enough to box with webs and they run down the remaining ships of Goons without much issue.

Review:

Here we have the first matchup between two drone cores, both with decent control. Early in the match the Moss Piglet Oneiros decides to burn toward the boundary to avoid the totally unscreened Eos from tackling him despite the team having two Vexors, a Retri, and an Armani to do so. The Maulus from Exodunks predictably throws his damps on the logi and the Curse gets killed quickly. The Eos finally gets pinned down by the Armani but by then the Curse, Retri, and both Vexors are dead dramatically limiting any ability for Moss Piglets to catch or kill the Exodunks Oneiros and we see it evolve into a complete sweep.

JovCo decided to grab the Scorch L comp that was mostly for meme purposes off of the comps page here and quickly found themselves in a matchup against ships that could do plenty of damage from far out of RTC boosted ranges that additionally had a Maulus for damps. Predictably, the Inquisitors for JovCo get killed off immediately and then Ryba. kites around picking off remaining ships for a relatively easy win.

On paper the kite plus damps should have the edge going into this matchup unless the Ryba. comp is specifically fit with additional projection. The hard dive comes from Ryba as needed and for some shocking reason the Moss Piglet Basilisk and an Orthrus decide to burn around for a minute and then dive right into Ryba’s battlecruiser ball, getting both of them promptly killed. The piloting from Moss Piglet in the two matches so far has been some of the weakest of the tournament and perhaps they should focus on positioning independent comps like a rush.

JovCo again opts for one of the comps off of the playbooks, this time picking one of the strongest in Khizrush and getting a relatively solid matchup against the same low dps drone comp that Exodunks ran in their first match. JovCo manages to clear the Maulus with their Jackdaw as the dps core dives an Arbitrator and gets Jackdaw damage out onto the Hyena to help their rush. But Exodus has fairly well screened the rush and is beginning to put work into the first Khizriel. Then, the ONEIROS BOUNDARIES, and this match is as good as over.
L in the case of this group is clearly for LOGI THROWING.

Review:

JovCo in this match opts for a triple Loki HAM rush with no links to for improving speed, web range, or tank and finds themselves up against a super heavy Armani/Eos core supported with two Sentinels and Deacon logistics. The Loki’s without additional support go straight onto the Armageddon Navy that still has full Eos links and get it into low armor before losing too much DPS. They aren’t able to crack it and this match shows that you really do need to find more damage if you’re going for a rush variant as the Loki’s were about 25% too light on damage and found themselves in probably the most difficult matchup in terms of applying damage to a logistics.

Both teams opted for again some unorthodox comps in this matchup. Ryba running two AC armor Khizriels as the majority of their damage which is quite light and easy to disrupt encountering a Pilgrim and Leshak with heavy screening and an Oneiros logistics. This was well determined initially as Ryba. would never be able to break unless they hit perma jams on the Oneiros with a single Blackbird and then ignored jamming the Leshak killing their entire team.

NC. begins this match by hard burning through the entire gunboat comp of burned my prop trying to hunt down the Augoror that runs toward the boundary. As their low end gets caught and killed, the Khizriels realize its a futile effort to catch the logistics and turn their attention to the Oracle and are able to burn through it with their damage. But without reps, the Khizriels die quickly under the firepower of the remaining triple Maller, double command ship remaining damage.

What we have in this match is essentially a mirror but with very different weapons systems. Regretfully for Test, missiles do not apply well even from Golems against Deacons or Nergals and Paladins do not have much trouble tracking any of the low end of the Golem core. Predictably, this becomes two Golems vs the world and the Paladin neuts eventually overwhelm the ability for the Golems to rep, while remaining entirely safe from the low applied damage output from Test.

It’s always an interesting choice to use three Draugurs as your sole damage output and attempt to face tank everything from the opponents by jam swapping and damping. However, when you run into two Armanis and two Nergals, you’re going to have a bad time as they have single racial resistance to an ewar team and can neut out your Guardian while damaging through your Draugurs with drones and Nergal dps. There were just too many priority amarr targets for the two Rooks to compete with and the match slides in favor of Test.

Wokewater opted to bring a full drone damage comp with neuts which sadly is very weak into the pure autocannon damage and ranged reps that they faced. burned my prop Raptors quickly get on top of the Oneiros and the rest of burned my prop are able to get through the screen and kill the Oneiros. How three Strats, a Geddon and a Magus only catch one Sleipnir on the rush is beyond me, but it costs them their logi and the match.

Review:

Wokewater brought back out their double Paladin comp and run into just an odd control comp with dual Ikitursa damage from NC. I personally hate Ikitursas as the damage ramp just takes far too long in the tournament format and they’re much better relegated to living within the Abyss and having more purple than the average faction titan.
The NC. Maulus forgets to move and gets two shot by the Paladins, then the Guardian takes a long trip right into the neuting optimal of one of the Paladins and gets shut off leading to the death of the Rook. The Ikitursas finally manage to get a kill on a Deacon in the closing minutes of the match but by then they can be completely ignored as their spool will take too long to generate another kill.

We have a solid Lesh/Geddon team from test against an interesting take on HAM rush from burned my prop with the win condition for the rush to clear the Leshak before it can break enough incoming DPS to survive. We see the HAM dps just completely overwhelming the out of position Deacon reps and the Leshak breaks as only the first likely overtanked ONI dies leading to a complete mismatch in terms of DPS and tank and a relatively easy clean up effort.

In the first match in this group we have the finn’s+nik domar bringing out the double Paladin comp we’ve seen floating around but opting for Confessors over Nergals. Meanwhile, SUS brings out an interesting take on a drones + damps comp with approximately 0 overall DPS and even less that can apply well to Deacons. The Armani opts to neut the Paladins which have huge cargo holds for plenty of cap injection even in the face of heavy neuting and instead leaves everything else untouched by neuts. The Deacons for SUS die to the Confessors while the Armani dies quickly to the double Paladin Conflag damage and this match is an easy clean sweep.

Review:

Goons brining out a Maelstrom variant on the triple Gila setup that I actually don’t hate given the speed buff given to the ship recently. On the other side we have D-sync with a disruption focused dual battleship core with a Hyperion for damage. Sadly there are 0 ships slower than the Hyperion on the Goons team so the kite game is a relatively easy play for the Gilas in this fight. One Gila does get tracked down through the Geddon neuts having no local cap injection to keep its prop on, but the lack of damage and travel time needed for the D-sync Hyperion to get to and kill the Gila means that they can slowly break through the support of the D-sync team for an easy points win.

Review:

In this match, we are treated to an absolutely maxed out brawl. I still have no idea why the SUS team put everything at 0 so their Gilas could get dunked by any high dps close range teams, but here we are. Gila and Khiz die, then the SUS team clears through the logistics while D-sync works through the second Gila leaving the Scimitar to the SFIs to hunt and kill. We continue to see trades all over but the range of the Gilas means the AC team needs to burn slightly more than they would hope and starts to lose their DPS advantage. We end up with a Nighthawk, Jackdaw, Maulus against two SFIs which predictably goes the way of SUS.

Review:

I was curious if we’d see Vargurs out of the finns in this tournament knowing that they are Vargur enjoyers and this match did not disappoint. From the start one of the appel Svipuls overextends and gets shredded while Goons kite away from a potential DPS mismatch into the Vargurs. This puts a timer on appel to make a move and kill points from the Goons team. It was at this moment that one of the best executed DUAL LOCAL MJD plays I’ve ever witnessed takes place.

And with that the Scimitar is just dead. He gets a few ASB cycles off but that’s it. Despite that Goons are able to wipe the entire support from the field and still maintain a point advantage…until they decide they have enough damage to all-in a non-bastion Vargur with their two Khizriels, two Cynabals, and two Jackdaws. The first Cynabal gets picked off quickly and it appears that everything is going well for Goons, but they overlook something very important. The local MJD on the Vargur still exists and the reactivation time on a Marauder MJD doesn’t rely on bastion and all characters have max skills including MJD reactivation time. As the first Vargur enters armor he pulls off another terrific MJD directly to an MJU and sits safely ready to go again. The second Cynabal dies and Goons realize they need to use the scrams on the Jackdaws to keep the second Vargur from escaping their two remaining Khizriels that still pump out damage, but the two Jackdaws die before the Vargur finally succumbs to the double Khizriel dps.
As we enter the last few seconds of regular time, Goons decide that points are more important than the match and they have a weak Vargur so boat toward it with a 19 point lead. The first Khizriel dies, J1tah jumps again and gets a reload off on his ASB and the rest is history and how the fourth match of this group ends.

I am curious about ammo selection and range plays from the No Need team as their damage output was well below the potential that they had.

Review:

Having just lost to a minrush, No Need decided to bring their take on the minrush comp. I must say that the structure of this one feels quite weak in my opinion given some of the other options available. No Need makes a fatal error quickly by splitting up their comp into an ewar and screen heavy tanky armor comp instead of clearing screens through Guardian reps with their significant damage output capabilities. A Confessor and Vigilant alone were able to handle the full teamwide rush with good screening and the backline was never threatened.

Review:

On paper, the CAS comp appears to be a solid try for countering the same minrush comp that ON2C brought in the previous match. However, ON2C immediately pulls back for a slow play kiting around out of damage range from the CAS team before fully committing once the CAS screens lose positioning. With clever combinations of MJU plays and bracketing they rush team is able to close onto the Guardian with their cruisers relatively uncontested. Once the logi trade happens, the sheer damage from the ON2C comp is enough to overwhelm the defenses of CAS.

Review:

An interesting missile kite relative mirror with the Scimitar and RLML platforms up against a Loki, Osprey and Jackdaws for support. In this matchup the two Orthrus and Scimitar prove to be much stronger than the two Jackdaws, Loki and Osprey. The destroyers and Osprey are killed well within a clip for only the cost of an Orthrus and from there the match snowballs to the end.

We have a matchup of a triple Gila kite into a light damage control focus comp with a Rodiva. Shockingly, the damage output from the three Gilas is more than enough to overwhelm the reps from the Rodiva not just on the Cruor, but also on the Prophecy Navy Issue. Perhaps the fit on the PNI was light on the tank and heavy on damage and was just not enough resistances to hold against the sustained damage output. From there, everything falls apart for ON2C unable to break even the Basilisk.

The whole Cosmic Potion team decided to warp to 0 with almost that amount of DPS. The 7 guys gunboat comp proved strong in this matchup as they are able to just hard dive and kill everything with no contest.

Review:

On paper the flykiller from NoVac looks to have a decent matchup into the double Paladin pressure comp, however they also don’t have anything in the way of disruption to keep the Paladins from poking with Scorch L for the entire match.
The Scimitar piloting is on point, but some ill advised hard dives and an out of position Jackdaw leave NoVac a very slight lead going into overtime having cleared the entire lowend of RamRod. A Cynabal gets into neut range of the Paladins and that’s enough to shut off the MWD and cause it to die. With almost no time left, NoVac hard dives the two Paladins and are probably 5-10 seconds too late to finish a Paladin and win on points.

They continue to tunnel on a ship that doesn’t lose more than maybe 50% of its shields for nearly the entire match.

They at least change their targeting priority in this match, however the DPS and tank of their low end is too light to hold the total damage from the RamRod team and they fall again.

Review:

The final match of the first weekend on the main channel did not disappoint. With NoVac brining a hard counter comp to the double Mega Pulse Laser battleship comp with Deacon logi. As expected the Draugurs and Nergal make quick work of the low end while the Paladin and Redeemer are able to get nothing done in return given the amount of neuts and disruption on the NoVac team. A somewhat hail mary throw from No Vacancies allows them to move through the Group at the top and simultaneously eliminates RamRod from the tournament.

Review:

This match is a clinic in why Mega Pulse are stronger than 800s. Hidden ship is able to pull back with range priority as the Tempests need to press. This allows the Vexors about a full minute to perfectly set a screen and coordinate for the approach while the Celestis can force the Inquisitors into range or keep them from repping. The layered screens from the Hidden Ship team are terrific and mean the Ancients can never apply damage appropriately to any target. With the heavy neuts from the redeemers, it’s only a matter of time before the Tempests start to break.
My only real commentary is clearing the Draugur and Kiki early when they were long separated from their Inquisitors could have helped make sure to maintain the Vexor defenses.

Again we have a triple Gila comp going into a comp with light projection and limited tackle. Had the German team opted away from the points hungry Curse, particularly while light on links, they might have had the points available to have enough projected damage to threaten Rusty’s kite. As it stood, Rusty didn’t even need to worry about clearing the Claw that tackled and led to their Scimitar death as there was nothing left for the Germans to do to project damage.

Review:

Triple tech 1 typhoon kinglsayer is not a strong composition regrefully since it lacks the damage bonus for heavy missiles that would increase the overall clip damage. They also decided to primary first the Osprey then the Manticores rather than loading fury and going straight onto a Sleipnir to tank test the ASB fits. Instead the Typhoons all got instantly scrammed by the Broadswords, couldn’t escape, and didn’t have enough damage to push through the rush comp.

Review:

What would at first appear to be a matchup between two RHML comps quickly became a kinglsayer for Rusty against Mega Pulse comp from HSV as they opted for the gun variant that has better sustained output compared to the missile variant.
At the match start the Ashimmu decides to face tank the full clip from the three RHML battleships rather than burning to range and letting the Celestis damps break clips and easily survive. The face tank maneuver almost works but sadly the pair of Inquisitors isnt enough to hold. In addition, the first primary Typhoon barely manages to coast out of the pulse laser range of the Armanis as they took a bad angle to keep him pinned. Losing this kill means the Hyenas comp continues to have nearly their full damage which is just barely enough to get through the remaining parts of the HSV team.

Review:

Both teams relentlessly pursue the opposing logistics off the bat, and both teams finally catch up and kill the logistics. From that point the kite from the Orthruses is able to keep them out of serious damage range from the Khizriels and Cynabals and the local ASBs keeps them alive against the trickle damage. They are able to take the match with solid positioning.

Review:

Bringing three Abaddons with minimal support is always a questionable choice. Even into a matchup that gives you one of the best opportunities with a minrush. The Sleipnirs held well and the Abaddons focused onto Melinda who kept range perfectly well and didn’t allow any counterplay for the Abaddons who couldn’t continue to break ships once the first battleship fell.

Review:

This match turned out quite exciting even though it was two of the weaker teams. WIth a Florida kite comp into a Khizrush, the edge would initially go to the kite team. Yet the Scimitar from Trash Tier is able to kite the Gila and Gator drones for nearly the full first seven minutes. Finally succumbing in the closing minutes before overtime. Once into overtime it becomes a game of cat and mouse with two Gilas finally beating out the Khizriel and Bellicose killing the cruiser with a minute remaining.

Review:

With two unorthodox comps in this matchup (seriously is there something I’m missing with all the Bellicose picks, even buffed its still pretty much garbage), we had a good little brawl.
We see a relatively early logi trade as both sides are unable to keep their tech 1 logistics cruisers safe from the high projected damage. The key turning point in the match is when the Paladins stop pursuing the Drekavac and Damassys manages to pull out of scorch range while the Abaddon closes in and sends full conflag into the primaried Paladin that can only be single plated. When the first Paladin dies, the match is essentially over as the damage and EHP favors the Abaddon after that point.

Group A

Review:

As expected, both teams opted to roll with heavy armor brawl comps with Brave going for a Leshak variant with three cheaper damage cruisers while Horde went with the Geddon and opting to invest relatively heavily into their two cruisers and a bit more control.
Off the bat of particular importance, the Sentinel gets hard damped and cant immediately apply disruption to the Leshak. The whole Horde team slow approaches into the Leshak core even though they have range priority, particularly the sentinel gets right to 0 to apply disruption and gets pinned quickly, looking to get neut pressure onto the Guardian.
By the end, the Leshak was allowed to spool on the Geddon while maintaining enough capacitor to keep firing (I don’t see cap transfer effects from the guardian but I can’t rule it out given the camera angles) and broke the Geddon, while the lack of damage from range out of the Horde team could not get through the Guardian Reps.

Review:

Tuskers bring out something quite unorthodox with a flykiller with Jackdaws and Rapier. They are able to kite for a significant amount of time and the Broadswords are unable to get their scrams applied at all being held off by the Rapier while the Sleipnirs are only web fit and cant pin down anything other than the Nighthawk. With losing the Raptors and Osprey they’re unable to catch anything and the Broadswords rapidly fall.
With this match, Tuskers all but guarantees going through in first place needing only 2 points against Horde in their next match. In all likelihood this group is set with Tuskers at 1, Brave at 2 and Horde at 3.

Review:

As mentioned in my group B preview, Lazerhawks likes to typically go with low execution ceiling comps and again brought a minrush after the Barghest and Loki were banned by Yamete. Yamete brings a missile fly comp with double Scalpel with the goal of kiting to win.
Right off the start the whole Lazerhawks team including the Osprey hard dive into the missile team with heated props and the Osprey gets hard focused and deleted while they do manage to catch a Cyclone Fleet. The screening from the triple Orthrus actually plays well here in this comp as it manages to slow the rushing Cynabals from spreading tackle on second and third targets.
By the time the first fleet Cyclone dies, hawks have lost their Osprey, Svipul, Kitsune and and a Cynabal. Even still this match ends up being close with the triple Orthus needing to stagger dps cycles to break the Sleipnir ASBs and prevent them from reloading, which the pilots on Yamete manage and end up getting through a Sleipnir while losing only one Orthrus.

Review:

The first review of a Florida Man comp with one Gator and three Gilas, in a semi mirror against the RLML missile variant with Claymore and triple Orthrus and Scimitar. The key here being, can the Scimitar outrun the Gila drones, with some fitting choices playing a key role in this matchup. We may also have seen an example of Thunderdrones plus the damps meaning the Gila drones don’t keep up enough with the Orthrus that is initially picked then decide to idle on their own and are unable to be reassigned. It’s also more than possible that the Gilas were not control range fit and the Orthrus was able to outrange their control range.

Review:

Suslik brought a beam gunboat comp and came in at absolute max range so the fight was very slow to kick off. This ended up hindering their ability to get damage out on the oneiros early and the majority of DPS ships remained well out of optimal damage range for the initial stages of the fight. They finally manage to get on top of the Oneiros but trade a Deacon and Maller for it then focus their damage onto a Vedmak that has a much stronger buffer than the Ikitursa and choose not to remove the Sentinel that is absolutely decimating their Battlecruiser damage output. From there the trig ships slowly spool through the remainder of Suslik and are able to maintain enough range that the Sentinel disruption is able to mitigate enough damage to carry the match.

Suslik again brought their beam comp while No Spaceships opted for a double Sleipnir, Khizriel flykiller. With Suslik attempting to kite the damage against two Mauluses they have no way of getting damage applied early before their first Deacon gets shredded. The Amarr core is far too slow to catch up to the Minmatar flykiller and ships get slowly chewed through by the high alpha and range of the artillery comp.

Review:

NEV brought out a heavy core Widow with Keres damps and had a terrific matchup into a double tech 1 Typhoon + Armani kingslayer. This version of the kingslayer has one of the lowest potential clip damage caps of any format and given the restrictions on points for the remainder of the team making application much weaker is likely not a great comp to field.
As we see, Of Essence has one option and that’s to hard dive the Widow, heat a full clip and pray. The Widow does well to escape and the RHML battleships dive but slowly even with the Armani MJD play and get screened where they can be damped out by the Keres. With nothing particular for support, the low damage of the Confessor and Vigilant are more than enough to break through the support of Of Essence. They finally start to get damage onto the Widow, but have already wasted valuable early match time on shooting the Oneiros that can’t be broken, barely coming up short of breaking the ECM ship before their reload.

Review:

This match turned out quite close. The double Gator HAM rush comp was quite effective right off the bat at going unscreened except for the Loki that was permanently held by the Confessor at the beacon. The Maugs died extremely quickly and with that the HAM rush was able to finally get onto the Oneiros and start getting appreciable damage. However, given the Oneiros was 100mn fit it was able to withstand much of the scram and HAM dps mitigating it with speed. The Gator drones proved to be the decider while the Redeemer and Falcon were not enough to quickly break through the HAM ships. By the time the first Gator died, the Oneiros had also fallen and with that the Confessor fell freeing the damage of the Loki to clear the remainder of the grid.

Review:

As a relative newcomer team, CAMELOT put together a straightforward blaster Rush comp with a Keres. This was an easy kite and kill for disaste and they walked away with a quick win.

Review:

So coming into this I rated S&W very highly given their pilots history on the winning AT 16 VYDRA team, yet arriving on grid they came in with a relatively standard pulse brawl armor core into a Widow + screening team.
Smile&Wave attempt to kite back to a beacon and make a jump to try to get to Snuffed’s backline but they play it well and slowly bring in tackle after the first beacon and scram the Redeemer on the second, well out of range of the Widow. At this point, the positioning match has been entirely won by Snuff but it’s not totally clear that they’ll hold against the Paladin and Redeemer damage with some of their lighter core. Good logi work from Blue Calari holds the entire Snuffed team throughout overtime as they manage to time jams and damps on the logistics of S&W and slowly break through a Maller and both Deacons.

Review:

CAMELOT put together a solid kite comp against an aggressive gunboat core from S&W. Some early ramming from S&W takes advantage of Kirins out of position as the Cyclone Fleet Issue gets rapidly deleted.
They spend the first several minutes of the match with their drones sitting on a Confessor that has an Augoror well within rep optimal keeping him alive and never find the time to swap Gila drone dps over to a weak tech 1 logistics that can’t outrun Gila drones. The match quickly snowballs in favor of Smile&Wave

Review:

I have now seen it all. A no-logi HAM all-in with just CyFIs for BCs, one Loki for webs, one Belli for paints and running two Taranis as tackle. Given the warp in ranges I almost assume the Armageddon of Alex has an MJD fit for instant backline jumps but it does play out relatively in their favor to have the split in warp ranges.
Initially the fight swings heavily into Snuffed’s favor as they take down the first Armageddon, but it turns out the local MJD on the second allows him to escape trouble given there appears to have been no scrams outside of the Taranis pair that died near instantly. It becomes a game of keep away where shockingly the minmatar ships are too slow to close to damage range of the drone boats that slowly break through their opponents.

Review:

disaste pulled the perfect time to run the solo Barghest dps range control comp as S&W brings the triple Sleipnir rush with no cruiser support. S&W again pulls back for a MJU but disaste is on point and quickly closes to approximately 50km range from the Sleipnirs thereby negating any attempted jumps. disaste then juggles screens very solidly and prevents any approach from the rush and slowly wears through the low end. Impressively not a single tackle effect lands on any disaste ship and they go through the group 3-0 and eliminate a team I was expecting to easily get out of this group.

Review:

CAMELOT brought out the double Megathron comp again and attempted to make another rush play but ran into a double Armani comp backed by Thalias which are likely the single most impossible logistics ships for Megathrons to kill. The Oneiros of Natali appears to forget they can move and is into structure before their speed is above 0 falling immediately after. From there, neuts get spread onto the Megas and remove the entirety of the CAMELOT damage, though CAMELOT does escape the tournament with at least one ship kill.

Review:

Paid Actors have been NOTORIOUS for bringing heavy rush comps favoring even battleships like Vargurs in the past and it appears this was Rote attempting to outsmart the drone bans while also trying to play an anti-rush core.
The initial screening and kite goes well for Rote and they get their neuting VNI on the Osprey effectively shutting it out, but a Khizriel finally runs down the Zarmazd and the lack of appreciable damage from the drone comp begins to be noticeable as the Ruptures take significant time to kill and the Opsrey and Khizriel take just long enough for the Zarm and Dominix to fall. The match turns out to be exceptionally close coming down to the last few seconds, but unable to close to scram range the Khizriel is able to MJD away from the drones as it enters structure.

Review:

Odin’s brought a missile kite with a Basilisk to replace the banned Scimitar, a bold move that paid off very well when they came up against the HAM rush core from DrakeSide. The Bantams die immediately and the Hyena suicides to buy a short amount of time, but the kiting CyFI gets caught and killed and the Basilisk finds itself too close to the high damage HAM team and dies almost immediately after. From there Odin’s is way behind but DrakeSide. has no logistics and no way to catch the remaining three Orthruses. The rapid lights slowly work through the remaining Loki and one of the CyFIs to end the match.

Review:

This is a relative mirror Florida Man matchup. However, the double Orthrus prove to be the turning point in the match as they are able to nearly outrun the Alligator drones and buy tons of time for the Paid actors Alligators to start working through the Osprey and three Gators. Perhaps different target selection from DrakeSide could have changed the outcome of the match as the Orthrus selections let do several minutes of wasted drone travel time. That said, had Ayumi managed to get an MJD pay off and escape from the paid actors dps they may have found a way to turn the match around.

Review:

Odin’s won the match on the comp selection with a kite control into a slow armor drone core that Rote brought for the second straight matchup. With nearly no way to close distance against the Odin’s team the speedy shield ships were able to keep away and outrep the drone damage while clearing the lowend of Rote.

Review:

Odin’s brought back the kite control again but ran into Florida man from Paid actors. With solid hefty damage ships and the ability to get Gator drones on the Basilisk, Odin’s was on a timer to start clearing dps. They quickly remove the Scalpels, and the Gilas prove to be very lightly tanked when caught, falling quickly to the damage from Odins team. Sadly there was just too little in the way of damage from the high end of the Odin’s team to finally crack through the second Gator and it manages to hold the grid in a super close match. With three very close wins Paid Actors makes it through to the main bracket and relegates Odin’s to second.

Review:

Rote brings a drone comp for the third consecutive match, but this time is into a comp they almost perfectly counter with three pure disruption cruisers and only three Draugurs for damage and a slow Guardian as logistics. They permajam the Guardian, and clear out the three Draugurs and take the match easily. Regretfully, this match was more about pride as both teams had been previously eliminated by being 0-2 in their groups before this fight.

SPERG brough an interesting take on HAM rush into a hefty control setup with solo Leshak. As expected, they were unable to get any appreciable damage out onto any of the MCA ships and were killed off one by one with the power of Occult L.

Just from the comp selection I would think that if MCA could get their dps onto the solo Leshak quickly they’d be able to carry the match through pure DPS mismatch. However, the Leshak is able to hold in mid structure as it may have coasted out of the disrupted Loki damage range and the Magus scrams. With this, CALSF needs 3 points in their match with SPERG to take the top spot. and SPERG needs at least 126 points and a win to move on to Redemption.

This team has some players for sure. It’s hard to measure their achievements since as a team they’re relatively new, but they also added Nik Domar of Hydra to the team which could give them the bump they’re looking for.

They play well with heavy armor control cores and had decent results with them.

They can get a bit creative when it comes to comp design, but perhaps a Hydra member can help reign in some of that creativity

Goons have historically underperformed in tournaments outside of one deep run in Anger Games Rebirth where they even took Hydra to the losers bracket. This team could upset Hole Control and they have some decent results, but I wouldn’t put too much faith in their performance.

Review

Paper Numbers and Raifaisen in particular are known for their MJD battleship plays, so look out for anything with 5 or so mids, be it a Vindicator or a Bhaalgorn to jump your back lines potentially. An interesting team with some solid performances but never cracking the top group.

They are typically on meta with their comps even if not the perfect fits or ship selection and can execute well with some surprises thrown in

They live and die by battleship piloting, if you can control their heavy core they’ll struggle in the match

It’s sad to see NC. after doing so well in AT16 disappear off the map (RIP Bap/Jose/DHB and co) much similarly to how they’ve diminished on TQ as well. Good for this group to get together for a tournament match, but it’s missing the key players that performed so well and brought so much knowledge.
